My Hopes for the 2022 Golf Season

Daylight savings time is past us. It is time to think about the upcoming golf season as we leave winter behind. So it is time to set some goals.

First, I want my putting to improve. I play Swan Lake a lot, which makes it harder as the greens are big. But even with smaller greens, I tend to 3 putt a lot. It kills my score every time. I came across the scorecard of my best round at Swan, no 3 putts that day, and I hit 5 putts. While the 89 was a great score for me, I wasn’t even playing well. I don’t specifically remember the round, but my short game must have been stellar.

I hope to hit more consistent tee shots. My drives are inconsistent on a good day. Last season I managed to tone down my slice, and kept it straight-ish during the winter rounds. Ok, I figured it in, and could hit fairways, but the distance wasn’t there. I will occasionally hit the longest drive, but there is no consistency there.

My lack of powering out drives leaves me with long 2nd shots. If I miss the fairway, I need a 4 or 5 iron, which doesn’t cut it. I am getting better with my hybrid, but the consistency isn’t there. I was never big on fairway woods, but it is getting there. If I can hit it consistently by June, I will be happy.

My short game has always been the best part of my game. I would like a bit more accuracy from 50–100 yards out. It would help with my putting issues. Progress on my other issues should help in this regard.

I think these are all achievable. If I can consistently hit mid 80’s, I’ll be happy. Good luck out there.
